Thank you so much for voting. Remember to vote everyday and have the best day ever! Maxwella and Pete are a cute pair of chinchillas. Maxwella (Max) is a spayed female. She was born around March of 2005. She is pictured being held and sitting in front of the large tube. Pete is a neutered male. He was born in February of 2006. He is pictured on the floor. Max and Pete came to Small Angels separately. Maxwella was rescued from an animal shelter, and Pete was unwanted by his previous guardian. The two chins were introduced in the rescue and are now a bonded pair. Chinchillas are very social tribe animals and should live with a companion whenever possible. Max is a friendly girl and good about being held. Pete is also nice, but he is very lively and...like a typical chin...he is much more interested in running around than having a cuddle. Max is a special needs chinchilla. Her two top front teeth are (permanently) missing. She goes to the vet every three weeks to have her two bottom front teeth trimmed with a dremel. She is very good about having this done and does not even need to be sedated. Max needs a guardian that is going to be wiling and able to maintain her teeth for the rest of her life. Max and Pete are bonded and must be adopted together. The adoption fee is $100 for the pair. Contact us at chinchillas@smallangelsrescue.org or 301-668-0404 for more information. The chinchillas of Small Angels would like to remind everyone that cedar bedding and pine bedding are toxic to all animals. Small Angels recommends The Mansion with the 1" x 1/2" mesh. Are chinchillas right for you? Chinchillas are not cuddly lap pets. Even the nicest chinchillas can be tricky to pick up and most only tolerate being held briefly. Chinchillas have a lifespan of fifteen years or longer, so they are a long term commitment. Chinchillas think everything is edible and can be avid and destructive chewers. Chinchillas also need and enjoy a lot of exercise and play time outside of their cage everyday in a large chin-proof area -- ideally a whole room. (They can jump right out of a playpen.) Also, air conditioning is a must in warmer weather -- as chins are susceptible to heat stroke. Thank you for considering adoption, rather than supporting the commercial sale of animals.
