Small Angels rescued 12 female rats from an animal shelter at the end of April. Betsy, Dolly and Martha are a trio from that group that are looking for a home together. Betsy is a mink and white hooded. Dolly is a buff and white hooded, and Martha is a buff berkshire. These girls are real sweetie pies! They are busy, bright and beautiful. They love playtime. They love fresh foods. They LOVE their hammocks, and it appears they have the potential to be litter trained too. These girls are friendly, fun and great, great, GREAT! The girls must be adopted as a trio. The adoption fee is $30. We welcome questions! Please contact us at rats@smallangelsrescue.org or 301-668-0404 for more information. Make sure to include your name and phone number in your email/message. We respond to all inquiries. If you do not receive a response within 48 hours, please assume there was a problem with your message and kindly contact us again. Thank you for considering adoption, rather than supporting the commercial sale of animals. Sweet dreams for Small Angels rats! Rats LOVE hammocks. They are a must have for any rat habitat. We always have a lot of rattie friends in our care, and we go through a lot of hammocks. For just a few dollars Rags To Rescues will send a snuggly handmade hammock directly to Small Angels. Only $1.00 for a hammock, $2.00 for a pocket hammock or small tube/pouch and $3.25 for a large tube/pouch. Check them out at www.ragstorescues.webs.com The rats of Small Angels thank you for helping to make their stay as comfy and cozy as possible while they wait for their Forever Homes. (The hammocks from Rags To Rescues are only available to animals in shelters and rescues.) Check out www.martinscages.com for great rat habitats. Martins ships quickly from PA. We recommend the Rat Lodge (R-680) or Rat Retreat (R-685).....or larger. For your convenience, Small Angels Rescue has Rat Lodge (R-680) powder coated cages in stock and available for purchase at cost. Any habitat should provide a minimum of two and half cubic feet of space per rat. Please check with us before purchasing a cage other than a Martin's cage. Some cages are the correct dimensions but have other problems. We are happy to assist you in choosing an appropriate habitat and can save you time, money and frustration. Remember, there is no such thing as a cage that is too big! Check out The Grotto on the Dapper Rat website for housing inspiration! http://www.dapper.comau/grotto.htm Unsure how many rats a particular cage will appropriately house? Use the Rat Cage Calculator! Remember to click on 2.5 cubic feet and click on Imperial (inches) before calculating. http://www.rattycorner.com/odds/calc.shtml The rats of Small Angels would like to remind everyone that cedar bedding and pine bedding are toxic to all animals. Please use Carefresh bedding (first choice) or aspen bedding for your animal friends. Never put your rats in an exercise ball. Exercise balls are dangerous and stressful for all animals. Rodents have poor eyesight. Their vision is even more limited in a cloudy colored ball. They always run into furniture and walls, which they don't see coming. It's like a car crash for them. They back up to try and get away and end up crashing into something else. Its very stressful. In addition, paws can get pinched/broken in the air slits. Animals can easily become over-heated. If they go to the bathroom in the ball, they have to run in their own waste. Furthermore, their great joy in life is exploring and checking things out with their paws and noses. They can't do that in a plastic bubble. Provide a large, safe play area for your rats and skip the ball! For wonderful toy and activity ideas, visit www.dapper.comau/toys.htm. We are in need of foster homes for rats particularly in the Frederick County and Montgomery County areas. Interested in lending a helping paw? We would love to have you join our foster care program! We'll supply the habitat. You supply the love! Fostering is a rewarding way to help deserving animals get a second chance. Please contact us at rats@smallangelsrescue.org or 301-668-0404 for more information. Want to support the rats of Small Angels but not yet ready to adopt or foster?
